Icon Design for App Launchers
These are several examples of icon design that I have done for Android and iPhone apps. Icons design trends have changed with the times and technologies. However, one thing that I have found that never changes is that a successful icon is always the most simple.
The Podcast Guru app icon is an example of this. It’s also an example of how A/B testing branding updates can help increase user growth significantly. It started simple and flat. But with the addition of lively color, we saw our active install rate double over several weeks.
UI icon design
The icon design illustration for the Tunewiki Social Music Player was meant to be simple clean and light. Also it should be noted that they are less illustrative and more graphical for quicker readability.
Icon as a font?
Font icons, also known as glyph icons, were a trend in app development due their resolution independence. Basically, they don’t lose quality no matter what the screen size or density on which they are being displayed. I designed (nearly all) of these based on inspiration from the font Karbon. But I adapted the line work into illustrative icons. I used Adobe Illustrator CC and the font editing tool Glyphs to output the icons as a font TTF file.
